Fort Berthold Oil Field Containment
|Fort Berthold, North Dakota||• 20 400-bbl TrueTank Oil Storage Tanks|
• 1 110-gal Vapor Pot
• 1 310×60-Foot TrueContain System
• 1 TrueWalk Catwalk System
Situation: An oil-well operation was building a new site on North Dakota’s Fort Berthold Reservation and wanted to minimize the expense and time of coordinating with multiple manufacturers.
Result: TrueNorth provided nearly 25 individual products needed for the site construction, giving the operation the convenience of working with fewer manufacturers, which also allowed the project to be completed faster. Installation took just 14 hours.
The project started with the installation of a 310-by-60-foot TrueContain containment system to prevent spills. The boltless system allows for a few inches of error, making last-minute adjustments simple. By the time the containment walls were up and roustabouts installed the Polyurea liner, the project was already four days ahead of installation time for similar systems.
TrueNorth Steel’s company-owned transport service delivered 20 400-bbl tanks directly to the site, staggering the deliveries to ensure the crane never had to wait for the next tank, eliminating downtime. TrueNorth’s quality standards meant the tanks’ nozzle protrusions were consistent, allowing the operation to save time by bringing in pre-fabricated piping rather than measuring and cutting on site.
Next, they set up the TrueWalk catwalk system for easy and safe travel between tanks. TrueNorth’s innovative locking structural channel design eliminates 75 percent of the bolts used on other systems, which allowed crews to knock out two-thirds of the standard installation time.
Altogether, the equipment design and delivery process resulted in the oil-well operation getting up and running in just a quarter of the time they had expected.
