Fischer Family Event

Three coworkers, over 600 miles away, help a fellow teammate they have never met, John Fischer and his family after the tragedy of losing their son to spinal muscular atrophy.

In July of this year, John Fisher (employed at Minnkota Windows) lost his five-month-old son, Deklen, to spinal muscular atrophy, a neuromuscular disorder. In the Fargo area there were many events held to bring awareness to this tragic event and help the Fischer family, including a Silent Auction Benefit for the family and a celebration of life where hundreds of toys were donated for Toys of Tots back in August (article below).
When the unfortunate news was brought to the attention of the employees at TrueNorth Steel’s Billings location, it planted a seed between three employees: Sterling Arneson, Shane Tyler, and Andrew Wallman. The trio started tying key chain lanyards in their spare time as a fundraising effort for the Fischer family. When asked why, they simply answered: “because John is a teammate and that’s what we do”. It didn’t take long for the three of them to show up to work with blisters on their hands from tying these lanyards up in their spare time.
However, they didn’t stop there. While working on the lanyard, the trio started thinking about what they more they could do to help. They committed themselves to collectively raise $3,000 and set out to find other ways to meet their target. Selling lanyards was not going to get them to their goal so they organized a raffle and silent auction, soliciting business for prizes and selling tickets. They took it a step further and arranged a poker run in conjunction with the event.
On Friday, November 15th, the trio of Sterling, Shane, and Andrew will be coming from Billings, MT to Minnkota Windows in West Fargo, ND to present the check to John Fischer and his family. We invite you to join us in celebrating this inspirational act of kindness.
