TrueNorth Steel is proud to be recognized as one of Prairie Business’ 2026 50 Best Places to Work. With this year’s honorees selected from more than 1,400 employee nominations, the recognition is especially meaningful because it reflects the experiences of the people who know our workplace best.
As a family-owned company, people have been at the heart of TrueNorth Steel since our founding in 1945. Now, more than 800 team members across nine locations in five states continue that legacy.
Game Changing Careers
Our culture is grounded in six Game Changer values: personally responsible, outcome focused, team player, positive, trusting and committed. These values provide a shared foundation for how we show up for each other, the work and our communities.
These are more than words on a wall. They are taught through Game Changer leadership training, offered in two and four-day courses. To date, more than 575 team members have completed the two-day program.
“A great workplace is defined by the experience people have within it. For us, that means creating an environment where people are trusted, challenged, supported and given the opportunity to make a meaningful impact,” said Kellie Carlson, VP of Human Resources.
That commitment also means recognizing the value of different backgrounds and creating opportunities for people to grow.
“I started my career in teaching before making the switch to HR. TrueNorth Steel saw my background as an asset and embraced the different experience I brought to the company. That opportunity reshaped the way I think, work and live my life, both at work and at home,” said Beth Kane, HR Business Partner.
For many team members, those opportunities have grown into long-term careers. Today, over 20% of employees have been with TrueNorth Steel for 10 years or more, including 14 team members with more than 35 years of service. Together, our team represents more than 4,779 years of experience, knowledge and commitment.

Through organizations like United Way, Habitat for Humanity and local initiatives across five states, team members give their time, resources and support to help make a difference.
