TrueNorth Steel is proud to spotlight our significant contributions to the Kampgrounds of America® (KOA) World Headquarters project in Billings, Montana. Completed in 2023, this two-story, 34,040-square-foot building is not only a monumental landmark, but a testament to sustainability, innovation, and local collaboration.

Our Commitment to Environmental Impact and Local Collaboration

Located just a quarter-mile from our Billings facility, the KOA World Headquarters project allowed TrueNorth Steel to minimize transportation emissions, reducing the environmental impact and supporting the local economy. This close proximity emphasized our commitment to sustainability and highlighted the importance of partnering with local firms to create environmentally responsible and economically beneficial projects.

KOA President and CEO Toby O’Rourke remarked, “From the beginning, we knew we wanted to create a space that embodied our mission of connecting people to the outdoors and each other. Partnering with local firms that share our commitment to sustainability was essential, and we are proud of the award-winning, eco-friendly space we have built.”

TrueNorth Steel’s 100% Recyclable Steel Helps KOA Achieve LEED Gold Certification

In recognition of its sustainable design and construction, the KOA World Headquarters was awarded the prestigious Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Gold certification by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC). During a recent ceremony, USGBC President and CEO Peter Templeton presented this certification, highlighting the building’s commitment to energy efficiency, indoor environment quality, waste and resource management, and water conservation.

TrueNorth Steel’s contribution of 100% recyclable structural steel is a key contributor to achieving this certification. Our sustainable materials and innovative construction methods played a crucial role in ensuring the project met the highest standards.

Comprehensive Solutions for KOA World Headquarters

TrueNorth Steel’s role in the KOA World Headquarters project went beyond providing structural steel. We delivered a range of custom solutions, including:

  • 16 tons of miscellaneous steel, including our patented TrueStair system, fabricated in 967 hours
  • Canopies, rails, trash enclosures, and metal decking
  • 600 hours from our Construction Services team

This project marked the first collaboration for our Construction Services team, demonstrating our ability to deliver comprehensive solutions for large-scale projects and ensuring a seamless, high-quality outcome.

A Hub for Innovation and Growth

The KOA World Headquarters is more than just a building; it’s a symbol of what can be achieved when sustainability, innovation, and local expertise converge.
