Featured Project: Gallatin County LowPro Modular Bridge

Sep 10, 2019 | Projects

TrueNorth Steel has been a trusted resource for steel products since 1945. From structural steel to agricultural and oil field products to modular bridge systems, we provide our customers with innovative steel solutions. Regardless of the project, TrueNorth Steel can fabricate products that not only suit our customer’s unique needs but also streamlines the project design and construction process.

This is exactly what happened when TrueNorth Steel was approached by Gallatin County in Bozeman, Montana. The county needed to replace an existing wood irrigation ditch bridge within a short span of time. Here’s how TrueNorth Steel was able to help.

Project Challenges

Gallatin County only had four days to complete the bridge project, which included removing the old structure and installing the new bridge. The new bridge design required increased structural capacity which would normally mean larger beams which in turn meant increasing the bridge approach elevation. If the bridge approach elevation was increased, it would create an elevated slope or ramp leading to the new structure and would have increased cost due to the need for additional road base material. With a limited time frame, they did not want to increase the elevation of the road, approaches, or new replacement bridge structure.

Application

To accommodate the challenges this project posed, TrueNorth Steel provided Gallatin County with a prefabricated LowPro modular steel bridgeSuperSill™ abutments, and prefabricated steel backwalls.

Prefabricated LowPro Modular Steel Bridges

TrueNorth Steel’s prefabricated modular bridge systems can be customized to suit different project applications. Our prefabricated LowPro modular steel bridges are perfect for a range of project types and locations that require a low profile, especially in rural settings like the Gallatin County bridge replacement. Other benefits include:

  • Versatile Design
  • Saves Time and Money
  • Faster Construction Times
  • Durable and Low-Maintenance
  • Easy Installation by County Crews (No crane required)

SuperSill™ Abutments

TrueNorth Steel’s SuperSill™ abutments are a prefabricated steel-concrete abutment designed to streamline the installation process of bridge systems. SuperSill Abutments™ are great for rural bridge projects like Gallatin County’s bridge replacement because they can be filled with concrete during fabrication or once they are installed on-site. When combined with our prefabricated steel backwalls, installation is even easier. Other benefits include:

  • Cost-Effective
  • Extremely Durable
  • Flexible Design
  • Low-Maintenance
  • Quicker and easier to install

TrueNorth Steel Products Accelerated Construction to Meet Tight Deadlines

Opting to replace the existing bridge with prefabricated steel products allowed this project to be completed quickly and efficiently. The TrueNorth Steel team fabricated the required materials and delivered them directly to the job site. County crews were then able to place and fill the SuperSill abutments, place riprap, install the LowPro modular bridge, and finish the deck and road in just four days.
