Quality Lead 2

The Quality Lead is responsible for following the Quality Management System (QMS) policies and procedures to ensure customer expectations are met.  This includes both Quality Control and some Quality Assurance activities in support of all departments for cross-functional success.  This position also includes the supervision of the Quality Control Inspectors at the site.

Essential Position Requirements:

  • Follow all company safety and quality requirements

  • Supervise and provide leadership for the Quality Control (QC) Inspectors (as per Organization Structure Charts)

  • Oversee the day to day quality activities in order to maintain and communicate facility and corporate metrics and objectives

  • Follow all necessary Business System Manual (BSM) and/or QMS procedures and processes

  • Serve as a member of the relevant Quality Council Committee and/or Sub-Committee

  • Complete incoming, in-process, and final inspections

  • Document and segregate non-conforming material and workmanship

  • Record Non-Conformances, Corrective Actions, and Preventive Actions into the SharePoint Quality Database

  • Apply problem solving techniques and/or root cause analysis to Non-Conformances, Corrective Actions, and Preventive Actions in the SharePoint Quality Database

  • Review Non-Conformances, Corrective Actions, and Preventive Actions from the SharePoint Quality Database with Facility Management to identify and implement continuous improvement

  • Verify Material Test Reports (MTRs) and similar documents for required information upon receipt of materials

  • Create service requests (similar to a purchase order) for calibration and non-destructive testing (NDT) suppliers that clearly state requirements to maintain acceptable quality

  • Remain current with AWS CWI and CWB Supervisor &/or Inspector licenses, code analysis, industry standards, procedures and processes, as applicable per facility

  • Ensure Welding Specification Procedures (WPS) are current and in place for projects, as applicable per facility

  • Supervise and/or conduct Welder Qualification Test Reports (WQTR) to AWS, ASME, and/or CWB standards, as applicable per facility

  • Maintain the Welder Continuity Log as applicable per facility

  • Calibrate and verify the necessary QC inspection equipment

  • Organize and record quality related training activities and effectiveness evaluations for all personnel

  • Represent the company, as needed, on field issues requiring investigation and decisions associated with product quality and conformance

  • Review production/fabrication drawings for errors prior to release in the shop

  • Communicate drawing corrections needed to the appropriate Drafter/Detailer and/or Project Manager

  • Able to work flexible schedules and overtime or weekends when needed

  • Prompt and dependable attendance.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Education & Work Experience:

  • High School Diploma or GED required

  • Minimum of five years welding experience, or equivalent training in fabrication of steel products

  • Minimum of 3 years QC Inspector experience (or equivalent)

  • AWS Certified Weld Inspector

  • Minimum of 2 years drafting/detailing experience

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Must have general computer experience along with experience using spreadsheet and word processing programs

  • Welding inspection

  • Applicable standards knowledge such as: AWS, ASME, or CWB

  • Blueprint/drawing reading

  • Leadership to motivate co-workers to quality workmanship

  • Strong ability to interact in cross-function ability

  • While performing the duties of this job, the Quality Control Lead is regularly required to sit, using hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms, and talk and hear well.
  • The Quality Control Lead may be required to lift up to 50 pounds.

  • The Quality Control Lead must be able to climb stairs, bend at the waist, twist, climb, stoop, stand, walk, grasp, pull, push, and have the full use of fingers on both hands to enable safe material handling, as well as function efficiently and safely in the outdoor work environments with exposure to weather extremes.

  • The Quality Control Lead must be able to hear and understand verbal instructions in a shop environment, as well as effectively communicate (verbal and written)
