Sourcing Specialist

The Purchaser Sourcing Specialist will implement sourcing plans and tactics supporting the mission and goals of TrueNorth Steel. Important aspects of this role are to maximize supplier performance, qualify and continually assess suppliers, identify cost savings using existing suppliers and new suppliers, and manage outsourced suppliers. 

Essential Position Requirements:

  • Purchasing duties to include purchasing steel, fabricated parts, paint and accessories for TrueNorth Steel.

Sourcing Specialist Duties to Include:

  • Implement plans to assure orders meet specified quality and delivery times and to minimize the total cost of purchases.

  • Assists with establishing supplier base in conformance with guidance from production, sales and management.

  • Assess and qualify current and potential suppliers in conformance with TrueNorth Steel Business Manual.

  • Negotiates with suppliers to meet quality, delivery and cost objectives.

  • Executes contract negotiation and development in coordination with Director of Operations Support and Purchasing Manager.

  • Identifies opportunities by evaluating spends and implement actions to achieve cost savings.

  • Research new raw material supplier and subcontractor options for TrueNorth Steel locations.

  • Manage all tank product line work done at outsourced suppliers for TrueNorth Steel.

  • Manage relationship with new and existing suppliers for TrueNorth Steel – includes vendor qualifications, assessments, paperwork filing, vendor setup/maintenance in SyteLine/Fabtrol and SCAR processing.

  • Track current price and lead time of steel and other materials/services.

  • Prompt and dependable attendance.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Education & Work Experience:

  • High School Diploma or GED required.

  • Associate’s degree in Business or related field or equivalent work experience.

  • Minimum of 2 years purchasing and/or sourcing experience.

  • Certified in Supply Management preferred.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Excellent communication skills.

  • Familiarity with various computer software programs.

  • Ability to multi-task.

  • Organizational skills a must.

  • Familiarity with steel items.

Physical Requirements:

  • Requires prolonged sitting, some bending, stooping and stretching.

  • Requires eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity sufficient to operate a keyboard, photocopier, telephone, calculator and other office equipment.

  • Hearing must be in the normal range for telephone contacts.

  • Ability to lift up to 20 lbs.

FLSA Status: Full-Time; Exempt
