Wage Information:

$60,000/yr + DOE

Safety Coordinator

Responsible for communication of safety programs and policies under the guidance of the Corporate Safety Director.  Assist others in enforcing safety programs and policies.

Essential Position Requirements:

  • Communicates safety policies and procedures in compliance with TrueNorth Steel corporate standards.

  • Supports local supervisors and communicates programs for managers and supervisors to train employees in work site safety practices, fire prevention, and correct handling techniques for chemicals, toxins, equipment, and other materials.

  • Inspects facilities organization to detect existing or potential accident and health hazards, determines corrective or preventative measures where indicated, and follows up to ensure measures have been implemented.

  • Provides information, signs, posters, barriers, and other materials to warn of potential and actual safety hazards and to prevent access to hazardous conditions.

  • Communicates findings or investigation of accidents and injuries to all local supervisors & posts incidents to the corporate reporting system.

  • Maintains safety files and records.

  • Provide technical safety support and information to managers, supervisors and employees.

  • Discretion to shut down production due to safety related concerns.

  • Identify company safety training needs in order to recommend, develop and coordinate safety training programs.

  • Involved in setting annual company safety goals and objectives for business plan.

  • Participate in new product/process reviews including process hazard analyses, Operator Training, etc.

  • Support production employees in selection of appropriate personal protective equipment.

  • Promote safety and health awareness through company communication, including newsletters and specific training programs.

  • Act as the Emergency Coordinator in overseeing the site’s Emergency Action Plan.

  • Serve as member of Safety Committee.

  • Prompt and dependable attendance.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Education & Work Experience:

  • High School Diploma or GED required.

  • Associate’s Degree in a related field and/or equivalent safety coordinator work experience.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Computer skills a must.

  • Process development skills.

  • Leadership skills to motivate co-workers to work safely.

  • Knowledge in OSHA standards.

  • Capable of understanding proper shop techniques for maximum safety.

  • While performing the duties of this job, the Safety Coordinator is regularly required to sit, using hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms, and talk and hear well.

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.

  • The Safety Coordinator must be able to climb stairs, bend at the waist, twist, climb, stoop, stand, walk, grasp, pull & push, as well as function efficientlyand safely in the outdoor work environments with exposure to weather extremes.

  • The Safety Coordinator must be able to hear and communicate verbally in the shop environment with co-workers.
